Congressman Gonzalez to Vote to Certify the Election

Press Release

Date: Jan. 7, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) will vote to certify the Electoral College results and cement Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the next President and Vice President of the United States. Following the insurrection and acts of domestic terror at the Capitol, Congressman Gonzalez released the following statement:

"As I witnessed the events of today unfold, my first thought as the doors to the House chamber were breached was about my wife Lorena. Would I return home safely? Is this how far our country has spiraled? Did we experience the past four years and a pandemic for it to end in violence?

Today was unprecedented in United States history. We experienced a siege and an insurrection by domestic terrorists on the Capitol that was fomented by a sitting President of the United States. I am shaken to my core, but I am undeterred.

As we reconvene this evening, I will reaffirm my commitment to a peaceful transfer of power and the sovereignty of our nation. I will uphold my constitutional duty and certify Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the next President and Vice President."
