Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) released a statement following the vote to impeach President Donald J. Trump:

"Aside from last Wednesday, today is one of my saddest days serving in the United States Congress. The sitting President of the United States incited a violent insurrection to intimidate and harm a co-equal branch of government in order to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

I was in the House Gallery when domestic terrorists attacked our chamber doors, the sounds, sights, and experiences as our great republic was assailed are still vivid and will forever be ingrained in my heart and memory.

For our country to heal and the rule of law to prevail, we must first have accountability. So today I voted to impeach President Donald J. Trump to remove and bar him from holding public office because his very existence is a threat to the future of our nation."
