Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today on the passage of S.J. Res. 14, a joint resolution to reinstate methane emission standards eliminated by the previous administration:
"Methane pollution is accelerating the pace of climate change and harming the health of families. Climate change is real and poses a threat to our economy, our Great Lakes and our way of life. Already we have seen the devastating effects of climate change on the Great Lakes, including rising lake levels, increased algal blooms and the spread of invasive species like Asian carp. We must act to protect the Great Lakes from climate change, so we can preserve our way of life for future generations.
"Today's vote will stop giveaways to Big Oil special interests and bring back common sense safeguards to reduce methane pollution and protect our environment."
