Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and member of the Ways and Means Committee, Ways and Means Committee Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09) and Ways and Means Committee Trade Subcommittee Chairman Earl Blumenauer (OR-03), issued the following statement today after the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP's) announced a Withhold Release Order to block some imports of materials from Xinjiang, China:

"China's human rights violations against the Uyghur people in Xinjiang are shocking and demand a response. We applaud President Biden for taking strong action to block the import of products made with slave labor. There is overwhelming evidence that China is using forced labor to manufacture solar panel materials, violating human rights and giving Chinese companies an unfair trade advantage over American workers.

"We must enforce current U.S. law and not be silent when workers are being exploited around the world. We are hopeful that the Biden administration will continue to take strong enforcement action against China for their human rights violations and unfair trade practices.
