Capito, Manchin Announce Funding for Workers Harmed by Foreign Trade

U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,370,490 for West Virginia through the Department of Labor's Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers Program. This funding will help the state of West Virginia provide training and employment services to eligible workers affected adversely by foreign trade.

"American jobs will always come first, and providing advantageous work opportunities for our communities is a main contributor to spurring economic development," Senator Capito said. "I'm glad the Department of Labor is stepping up to provide our state with the resources necessary to train workers who have faced hardship due to foreign trade. Our workforce and demands are constantly changing, and services like this will help our state keep up with current trends and prepare our workers for future opportunities."

But far too often, hardworking West Virginians have been devastated by unfair trade practices leading to job losses," Senator Manchin said. "This funding for the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program is welcome news for the Mountain State and will provide training, employment services and wage subsidies for West Virginia workers who have lost their jobs due to foreign trade.
