Guthrie Hosts Roundtable on Opioid Crisis and Human Trafficking with Attorney General Daniel Cameron

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) yesterday hosted a roundtable on the opioid crisis and human trafficking with Attorney General Daniel Cameron in Danville, Kentucky.

City officials, educators, representatives of recovery centers, law enforcement officers, and other members of the community from Boyle, Garrard, Jessamine, and Washington counties participated in the roundtable.

"I brought together members of the community to discuss how we can better address two issues in Kentucky: the opioid crisis and human trafficking. I've taken action on the federal level to support resources to combat the opioid crisis and human trafficking and also help those who have been impacted. I know Attorney General Cameron and community leaders that were part of this discussion are working hard at the state and local level as well. Our work doesn't end after this discussion. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with community leaders to address challenges and advance resources to better combat human trafficking and the opioid crisis in Kentucky," said Rep. Guthrie.

"We know that traffickers use drugs to coerce, manipulate, and exploit victims of all ages, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to partner with Congressman Guthrie and community leaders to talk about the intersection of the drug epidemic and human trafficking," said Attorney General Cameron. "No state has been hit harder by the drug epidemic than Kentucky, and it's important to talk about the effects of drugs in tandem with the issue of human trafficking. The roundtable participants share a singular commitment to ending human trafficking in the Commonwealth, and we will continue to work closely with these partners and others across the state to further this goal."
