WASHINGTON--Helping to pave the way for the most transformative investment in the American people in generations, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) voted to pass a budget resolution today that would put New Mexico families at the center of our economic recovery.

"As someone who grew up in a working family in Albuquerque, I know firsthand how critical investments in our families and their well-being are to our future. That's why I voted for this transformative budget resolution, which will help make some of the most significant investments in our families and communities in generations," said Congresswoman Stansbury. "This budget is a game-changer that will invest in universal childcare, paid family leave, affordable housing, and create a path to citizenship for essential workers. New Mexico families need this budget, and I am committed to doing everything I can to secure this vital funding for our communities."

The resolution that passed the House tonight begins the process of enacting the Build Back Better Plan through a budget "Reconciliation" process. The reconciliation process allows the budget to be passed with a simple majority in the U.S. Senate.

The Build Back Better Plan is designed to deliver transformative, life-changing benefits for working families across the nation by:

Creating millions of good-paying jobs;
Cutting taxes for families and small businesses and leveling the playing field for corporations;
Lowering health care costs;
Creating child care, home health care, paid family and medical leave, and free universal pre-K programs;
Making the Biden Child Tax Credit permanent;
Promoting workforce development;
Expanding Medicare benefits;
Closing the Medicaid coverage gap;
Addressing the climate emergency, and more.
