Statement by Congressman Kildee on Passage of Legislation to Honor Full Faith and Credit of the United States

Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON--Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today after Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives voted to ensure that the United States does not default on its obligations:

"The full faith and credit of the United States cannot be questioned. The full faith and credit of the United States is not a partisan question. Congress has addressed the debt limit 78 times: 29 times with a Democrat in the White House, and 49 times under a Republican president. Under former President Trump, Democrats cooperated with Republicans to address the debt limit three times.

"Yet Republicans are now refusing to meet America's obligations, including $7.8 trillion during the former president's time in office. It's shameful that Republicans are playing politics with the full faith and credit of the United States."
