Congressman Kildee Votes to Keep Government Open, Avoid Shutdown

WASHINGTON--Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today voted to keep the government open and avert a shutdown, which would have cost our economy billions of dollars and laid off hundreds of thousands of workers.

H.R. 5305, the Extending Government Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act, would keep the government open by continuing funding for vital federal agencies, such as education, health, housing and public safety programs, through December 3, 2021.

"Today I voted to avoid a government shutdown, which would have hurt Michigan families, small businesses and seniors. A government shutdown would cost our economy billions of dollars, lead to hundreds of thousands of federal workers being laid off and force law enforcement agents like the FBI, Customs and Border Patrol and TSA to work without pay. While I am disappointed that most Republicans voted to shut down the government, I am glad that Democrats in Congress acted to avert a government shutdown," said Congressman Kildee.
