Congressman Kildee Announces $3 Million in Federal Grants to Local Health Centers

WASHINGTON--Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, today announced $3,031,723 in federal grants from the American Rescue Plan, which he supported and helped pass, to help four local mid-Michigan health centers.

The federal grants, awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will support construction and renovation projects related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These awards will strengthen primary health care infrastructure and support the continuation of primary care, dental and behavioral health care services to families, particularly those who are medically underserved. The four community health centers in mid-Michigan that will receive federal grants include:

Great Lakes Bay Health Centers, $1,127,396
Sterling Area Health Center, $596,305
Hamilton Community Health Network, $760,832
Genesee Health System, $547,190

"I am committed to bringing home federal resources to help our communities respond to the pandemic. This federal funding will help provide continued access to affordable and high quality health care in our district," Congressman Kildee said. "Community health centers are on the front lines and we must make sure they have the resources they need to serve patients and combat the spread of coronavirus."

In March, Congressman Kildee voted in support of the American Rescue Plan, a relief package to support American workers, families and small businesses during the pandemic. The package provides billions in urgently needed funds to accelerate the free and equitable distribution of safe vaccines to as many Americans as soon as possible, to implement a strong national testing and tracing strategy with billions reserved specifically for combating the disparities facing communities of color, and to support our heroic health care workers.
