Rep. Payne, Jr. Promotes Child Tax Credit Benefits to Families

Press Release

Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. announced some of the benefits that the expanded Child Tax Credit has provided to hard-working, New Jersey families and their children today. In New Jersey's 10th District, the expanded credit helped feed, educate and care for 165,000 children in August. Statewide, the credit helped 1.6 million children and generated $19.3 billion in revenue for local economies. Families spent the majority of their credit on food, school supplies, and childcare.

"The expanded Child Tax Credit has been a tremendous success for New Jersey families because it has helped them pay for food and other necessities for their children during this global pandemic," said Rep. Payne, Jr. "I held a Child Tax Credit event in the district to encourage all eligible New Jersey parents to take full advantage of it. As a father of three, I know how every extra dollar can make a difference in household budgets. President Biden and Congressional Democrats are committed to helping American families during this crisis and the expanded Child Tax Credit is a great example of that."

The Child Tax Credit provides eligible American families with payments of $250 to $300 per child every month until the end of 2021. It is available to families with children under 17 years old who earn $150,000 or less for a two-parent household and $75,000 or less for a single-parent household.

Families with children under six years old will receive $300 payments and families with children between six and 17 years old will receive $250 payments. The credit has benefited 84 percent of children in New Jersey's Tenth Congressional District and brought at least 12,000 local children out of poverty already.

Qualified parents must file a tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or sign up through the IRS Non-Filer Tool to become eligible for the payments. For more information, visit ChildTaxCredit.gov
