Senator Hassan Statement on Opening of U.S.-Canada Border to Vaccinated Canadians

Statement

U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), a member of the Homeland Security Committee which oversees the Department of Homeland Security, issued the following statement after news that the U.S. will allow fully vaccinated Canadians to travel across the U.S.-Canada border:

"The reopening of the border to vaccinated individuals is an important and long overdue announcement, and I am glad the administration heeded my calls to end these travel restrictions in order to help New Hampshire's economy rebound and support our tourism communities."

Senator Hassan has repeatedly pressed the administration to safely and fully reopen the U.S.-Canada border. Less than a month ago, Senators Hassan and Shaheen urged the administration to reopen this U.S. border. During a hearing this summer, Senator Hassan pressed the Homeland Security Secretary on the importance of reopening the U.S.-Canada. In August, Senators Hassan and Shaheen hosted a virtual meeting, along with the rest of the New Hampshire Congressional delegation, as well as representatives from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Canadian Consul General in Boston and numerous Granite State industry representatives on re-opening the U.S.-Canada border to vaccinated Canadians and the impact it has had on New Hampshire.
