Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2021on a vote of 365 to 51. The bill allows federal highway, transit, highway safety, motor carrier, research, and transportation financing programs to continue operations through October 31, 2021. Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued the following statement:

"Tonight, I voted to pass legislation to extend surface transportation programs for 30 days. While I had hoped to see the House pass both the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the full budget reconciliation package, our vote tonight was a necessary and important step to protect federal employees' livelihoods, create new jobs, and invest in the safety and modernization of our transportation systems.

"Following today's House Democratic Caucus meetings with Speaker Pelosi and President Biden, I am more confident than ever that Congress will pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Build Back Better Act on behalf of my 40th Congressional District and the entire nation."
