House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) released the following joint statement on the passage of the Democrats' tax and spending bill -- the most radical piece of legislation in our nation's history.

"At a time when Americans are paying outrageously higher prices for gas at the pump and food at the grocery store, Democrats responded by ramming through a multi-trillion dollar tax-and-spending spree that will drive inflation even higher, hitting lower-income families the hardest. Despite President Biden's campaign promise, families making less than $400,000 will pay higher taxes, with provisions like the natural gas tax costing lower and middle-income families up to 30 percent more on their monthly utility bills.

"Make no mistake: this bill will cause inflation to skyrocket even higher, raise taxes on working families, and ship millions of jobs overseas. Despite how families all across the country are struggling right now due to President Biden's big government socialist agenda, House Democrats ignored the message sent from voters just weeks ago and instead decided to double down on their extremist, radical agenda that is hurting families and increasing inflation."

"Other devastating provisions in this 2,300 page bill include an additional 87,000 new IRS agents to patrol the bank accounts of Americans, mass amnesty and tax credits for millions of illegal immigrants, a $250 billion tax cut for millionaires and billionaires funded by tax increases on the middle class, and expanded federal control over your child's education.

"Republicans are united against trillions of dollars in additional spending, borrowed from China with the bill being passed to our children.

"Tonight, President Biden and House Democrats chose leftist special interest groups and illegal immigrants over the needs of hardworking American families. While Democrats are ignoring the needs of American workers and families, Republicans are paying attention: we will continue to fight against their radical, failed agenda and stand up for the working and middle class Americans that big-government Democrats have abandoned."
