Dear Democratic Colleague,
Thanksgiving is a holiday which we look forward to, enjoy and savor long after. As we prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead, let us draw strength from our time at home with our families, friends and communities. In that spirit, I am writing to call to your attention to a San Francisco Interfaith Council Thanksgiving observance, which invoked the words of President Lincoln.
On October 3rd, 1863, President Lincoln issued the following proclamation: "I do therefore invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November [next] as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens and implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union."
May the patriotism and virtue of President Lincoln's dedication then, continue to be an inspiration to our great nation and to us personally, now. May the spirit of Thanksgiving be a blessing to us all as we return to Washington to continue our work to crush the virus and to Build Back Better.
Thank you for your leadership For The People.
