Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.-08) joined his Republican colleagues on the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce, in unveiling a comprehensive strategy to establish a national privacy standard and protect Americans' private information. This comes in response to repeated data breaches in recent years at major US companies like Equifax , Facebook, and Yahoo that put hundreds of millions of Americans' personal information at risk.

Congressman Bucshon is leading on Privacy by Design within the framework that will focus on proactively mitigating privacy leaks and vulnerabilities within US companies, while also encouraging responsible data protection practices for all companies trusted with sensitive, private information.

"Over the last decade, we have seen far too many data breaches that put Hoosiers at risk. This national privacy standard framework would ensure that US companies have adequate tools and resources to help ensure that sensitive information will not be compromised now or in the future," said Congressman Bucshon. "I am proud to join my colleagues in pushing for a framework that would ensure that these companies can identify and address vulnerabilities to create a safer and more productive consumer environment."
