U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) released the following statement on U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter's (D-CO) announcement today that he will retire at the end of his term:

"There is no greater honor than the privilege to represent one's community in the United States Congress. Getting to do so alongside someone like Congressman Ed Perlmutter makes it even more special. For more than 25 years, Ed has not only been my colleague, he has been my friend. Our friendship, which started more than two decades ago when we were both serving in the Colorado Legislature, has only grown stronger over the years.

"From those first days in the state Legislature to the time we've spent together in the U.S. House, I've watched Ed serve his community with a passion and dedication that's second to none. Ed's tireless work on behalf the people of his district, and his never-ending pursuit of the issues he cares so deeply about, are what make him one of our state's finest public servants. I have no doubt that he will enjoy nothing but success in whatever challenges he takes on next.

"I wish him and his family nothing but the best in all their future endeavors. We owe Ed a tremendous debt of gratitude for his service, and I look forward to continuing our friendship for many years to come, even after he leaves Congress."
