Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today announced that the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) will provide funding to determine how to stabilize MLGW electricity transmission line towers threatened by erosion of the Wolf River banks between North Highland and Jackson Avenue north of Interstate 40. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will devote $50,000 to determining whether the project has a federal purpose. If it does, another $50,000 would be spent on a feasibility study for the bank stabilization work.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which in Tennessee only Congressman Cooper and I voted for, will make significant improvements to our roads, bridges, pipelines and transit systems. The funding I am announcing today addresses Memphis' critical infrastructure needs to keep our local electric grid safe and operational. It is a smart and timely use of this new funding."
