Opportunity Zone Magazine Awards Cuellar "Top 25 Policy Influencer'

Statement

Today, U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced that he was awarded "Top 25 Policy Influencer' by Opportunity Zone Magazine.

Cuellar has been instrumental in extending investments in historically underserved areas, including South Texas. In February 2021, he introduced the Opportunity Zone Extension Act of 2021, created under the under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, to extend the program until the end of 2028.

"Opportunity Zones allow private organizations to invest in economically underserved areas in exchange for tax breaks. This is not just good for business, it is good for communities in South Texas that have historically lacked access to capital and investment," said Congressman Cuellar. "We must continue to provide private organizations with the resources to continue their investments by removing unnecessary red tape and bureaucratic processes. These zones are critical for the economic development of South Texas and will be imperative as we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic."
