Rep. Long Congratulates Nixa High School Student on Winning the 41st Annual Congressional Art Competition

Today, Congressman Long (R-MO) recognized Nixa High School student, Kelsey Gifford, for winning this year's Congressional Art Competition.

Kelsey Gifford's winning selection is a colored pencil work entitled, "Home of the Free." Gifford's work that featured her grandad's military boots will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with other artwork winners from across the country. She will have the opportunity to come to Washington, D.C. and attend a ceremony in which her winning work will be unveiled.

"This competition is always a highlight of my year. I really enjoy seeing the artwork that our talented students submit for the Congressional Art Competition," Congressman Long said. "I want to thank and congratulate all of the students who participated in this year's competition, along with the art teachers who encouraged and inspired them. Although my talent was lacking I can still smell the water colors and oil paints I used in Mr. Kinsey's class at Greenwood High School."

Ambryah Moore from Clever High School is this year's second place winner with her acrylic painting entitled, "Self Portrait." Ellie Lawson from Carl Junction High School is this year's third place winner with colored pencil work entitled "Grandma's Child."

This was the 41st Annual Congressional Art Competition held by the Congressional Institute that encourages students from all over the United States to showcase their artistic talents by submitting an original piece of artwork. This year's winning pieces were judged and selected by Dr. Rebecca Burrell and Malinda Ingram
