Hudson: No Shifting Blame from Biden's Price Hike

U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) is calling out attempts to shift blame for America's energy and gas price crisis. Today, Rep. Hudson attended an Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing with six energy executives. In today's hearing, Democratic Members of the Committee have attempted to pin rising gas prices on oil companies, but Rep. Hudson says the American people are smarter than that.

"For the past year, President Biden and Washington Democrats have tried shifting blame for skyrocketing gas prices at the pump to everyone but themselves - First COVID-19, then Vladimir Putin, and now oil companies. The American people are smarter than that and know pain at the pump began long before Russia's heinous invasion of Ukraine and started the first week of Joe Biden's presidency," said Rep. Hudson. "After cancelling American pipelines and placing restrictions on domestic oil production, gas prices have risen every month of Biden's presidency. They can continue trying to shift blame, but Washington Democrats are responsible for pushing anti-American energy policies and own Biden's price hike."

Rep. Hudson has criticized President Joe Biden's actions taken in his first week in office to stifle American energy production including cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline, stopping new oil and gas leases on federal lands, and placing other restrictions on domestic production. Following those actions, gas prices have risen every month of Biden's presidency, reaching a 7-year high in July and an all-time high last month. These record prices and the highest inflation rates in 40 years are costing average American households an extra $5,200 this year compared to last.

Under President Donald Trump and thanks to Republicans in Congress, the U.S. became a net exporter of energy for the first time in 70 years. Now, Rep. Hudson has criticized the Biden administration's tapping of U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserves three times and willingness to engage with adversaries like Iran and Venezuela for more oil.

To unleash American energy production, Rep. Hudson cosponsored the American Energy Independence from Russia Act that would also cut off U.S. dependence for oil on foreign countries including Russia. House Democrats have blocked this legislation four times.
