Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) released the following statement on the historic 2022 renewable volume obligations announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:

"Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the largest renewable volume obligation levels in the history of the Renewable Fuel Standard. This is an extraordinary win for our nation's family farmers, our environment and consumers facing steep prices at the gas pump.

"While the previous Administration sold out to Big Oil, President Biden is taking unprecedented steps to bolster markets for family farmers and drive economic growth in rural America. I'll continue working with the Administration and my colleagues on the bipartisan Congressional Biofuels Caucus to expand the use of renewable fuels and lower costs for American families."

Today's final rulemaking establishes the required renewable fuel volumes under the Renewable Fuel Standard program for three years: 2020, 2021, and 2022, plus a supplemental obligation of 250 million additional gallons for 2022. The EPA also announced a suite of Small Refinery Exemption (SRE) actions including the denial of 69 previously pending SRE petitions spanning the 2016 -- 2021 compliance years.
