DeLauro Praises Dedication to Continuing the Expanded and Improved Child Tax Credit and Ensuring Workers Have Access to Paid Family and Medical Leave

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released the following statement on President Biden's budget request for fiscal year 2023:

"Earlier this month we passed federal spending bills that lower costs for families, help students pay for the high cost of education, and give hard-working people in Connecticut and across the country access to high-paying jobs. Now that we are out from under the previous administration's budget, this request builds on that momentum and will help us create a government that once again works for working people.

"For too long, working people have struggled to pay their bills and taxes while multi-millionaires and billionaires have not been asked to pay their fair share. With the minimum tax on the wealthiest 0.01 percent of households, this request keeps communities safe by funding community policing and law enforcement. Additionally, it proposes critical investments to support our nation's health and well-being--from community health centers to public health infrastructure to biomedical research to resources to combat the opioid crisis. I am particularly proud that this request proposes investments for a Universal Flu Vaccine and Public Health Data Modernization.

"In the recently passed spending bills, we secured historic resources for our schools and child care centers. This request builds on that progress with funding for registered apprenticeships and early childhood, K-12, and higher education.

"As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, this budget continues to prioritize and support our European allies and partner with funding to enhance the capabilities and readiness of U.S. forces, NATO allies, and regional partners.

"I applaud President Bident for reiterating his commitment to much-need support for workers and their families--extending the expanded and improved Child Tax Credit and ensuring workers have access to paid family and medical leave. Just like the package we successfully passed earlier this month, we must work together to get our spending bills over the finish line--no one chamber or party can do it alone."
