Press Release

Date: April 20, 2022

Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) joined NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, Astronaut Richard R. Arnold II, senior leadership of Nanocomp Technologies, and Zenaugi Brahim, NH MEP & Chair of NH Aerospace & Defense Consortium for a tour of Nanocomp's facility in Merrimack. They also discussed the important role New Hampshire plays in NASA's missions and the positive impact the advanced manufacturing required by NASA has on the Granite State's economy and workforce.

Nanocomp is a supplier for NASA's Artemis project, which will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before and set the stage for the manned exploration of Mars.

"It was my pleasure to welcome Administrator Nelson and Astronaut Arnold to New Hampshire today to see first-hand the cutting-edge manufacturing being done by Nanocomp, which is strengthening our workforce and economy while leading the way in exploration and discovery," said Congressman Pappas. "I want to thank Nanocomp Technologies for the warm welcome and for the work they do supporting our space program. As we finalize legislation to invest in our competitiveness, I remain committed to ensuring that New Hampshire's manufacturers have the support they need to thrive and compete on the world stage."

"It was wonderful to see firsthand the great work Nanocomp is doing in New Hampshire to support NASA's space exploration from the Juno spacecraft currently orbiting Jupiter to the Artemis program," said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. "Partnerships like these between NASA and private industry across the nation create good-paying jobs and support the economy here on Earth as we explore further out into the heavens. Thank you to Rep. Pappas and Nanocomp for hosting me and Astronaut Ricky Arnold, and I look forward to seeing the progress being made in science and technology that will propel us into the future."

"Nanocomp, and the rest of Huntsman, is proud to continue our relationship with NASA through support of the ARTEMIS Program. The unique properties of MIRALON materials make them perfect for helping to enable America's long-term presence on the moon and beyond," said Huntsman Merrimack Accounts Manager Jack Rust.

Congressman Pappas was recently named a member of the bipartisan, bicameral conference committee that will negotiate a final version of a legislative package to bolster American manufacturing and promote U.S. competitiveness. In the House, Pappas helped pass the America COMPETES Act, legislation to make transformational new investments in research, innovation, and American manufacturing that will ensure that America can outcompete any nation in the world, now and for decades to come. That legislation included provisions introduced and co-led by Pappas to strengthen "Made in America' provisions, and support small manufacturers and rural businesses.
