Letter to Mr. Nick Jeffery, Chief Executive Officer Frontier Communications - Communications Workers Of America Applauds Efforts By Dr. Ruiz To Support Ongoing Negotiations For Improved Labor Standards

Letter

Date: June 22, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Labor Unions

Dear Mr. Jeffery:
I write regarding the negotiations between the Communications Workers of America D9 (CWA) and Frontier Communications of California. Many of my constituents are members of CWA, and I advocate for Frontier Communications to negotiate with CWA in good faith.
Communications workers have been on the frontlines throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, providing essential services that our nation has relied on while working remotely. These workers are asking to see their workplace concerns properly addressed. In order to provide needed upgrades to telecommunications infrastructure throughout the nation, Members of CWA are advocating for strong wages and benefits, as well as safe and sustainable job security. This is especially true for the CWA members who I represent in California.
CWA member's requests include an ask for Frontier Communications to utilize existing and experienced union workers to deploy fiber connections and service customers, as well as an ask to keep sales and service calls from California in the hands of California-based workers rather than being deployed overseas. This is in addition to requests for sustained job security, bonuses and benefits being distributed equitably amongst all workers, and an increase in health care premiums and wages, in order to address the rising cost of living.
Again, I encourage you to negotiate in good faith, and I urge full and fair consideration of all requests. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact my office at (760) 424- 8888.
