Rosen Visits Newly Built Affordable Housing Project in Las Vegas, Discusses Need to Address Record High Housing Costs

Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) visited the Decatur Commons Affordable Housing Complex -- a newly built affordable housing project developed by Nevada HAND in Las Vegas -- to discuss efforts to lower skyrocketing rent and housing costs for Nevadans. This project includes 480 affordable housing units and it is one of the largest affordable housing communities in Nevada's history. Senator Rosen was joined by Audra Hamernik, the President and CEO of Nevada HAND.

"Skyrocketing rent and housing prices are hurting Nevadans, and I'm working every day to find ways at the federal level to help lower these costs," said Senator Rosen. "I've been hearing directly from Nevadans about the housing challenges they're facing and what I can do in the Senate to continue to help. We need to do everything we can to provide immediate relief for hardworking families."

"Currently, Nevada HAND has over 700 units of affordable housing under construction. We are proud to be providing a great deal of housing for those in need, but we also understand that there is a lot of work still to be done as we address our housing challenges."

Senator Rosen has been actively working at the federal level to lower housing costs and increase the availability of affordable housing for Nevadans. She led the efforts in Congress to secure $166 million in the bipartisan government funding bill for NeighborWorks, which directly funds Nevada HAND, and she worked with Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) to secure $1 million in Community Project Funding for affordable housing and new business developments in Clark County. She also led the charge in the Senate to increase funding by 25 percent for HUD-VASH vouchers to house veterans. In 2021, Senator Rosen helped to pass the American Rescue Plan Act, which included nearly $165 million in funding for Nevada for emergency rental assistance, as well as the funds for Nevada's $500 million Home Means Nevada Initiative. Senator Rosen has also co-sponsored legislation that would create a bipartisan task force to better understand and address the affordable housing crisis.
