Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the House introduction of the Net Neutrality and Broadband Justice Act:

"Today, House Democrats are introducing strong legislation to close the digital divide, advance equity throughout our economy and empower all Americans to thrive in the 21st Century. Spearheaded by Congresswoman Doris Matsui, the Net Neutrality and Broadband Justice Act will secure a fairer, more accessible digital future by enshrining into federal law a common-sense value: everyone deserves access to affordable, high-speed internet service.

"A free and open internet is more than an invaluable tool -- it is a basic necessity for Americans to learn, work, start businesses, access health care, stay connected with loved ones and more. Under the previous Administration, the FCC gutted critical consumer protections: allowing powerful internet service providers to arbitrarily disrupt broadband access for countless Americans, from firefighters combating wildfires to families struggling during the pandemic. With our Net Neutrality and Broadband Justice Act, House Democrats are putting People Over Politics: leveling the playing field for consumers and advancing broadband justice in America.

"The historic $65 billion broadband investment in our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is already expanding internet access in every corner of the country. Building on this important progress, the Net Neutrality and Broadband Justice Act is another key step in tearing down unfair digital barriers and widening the path to prosperity. On behalf of House Democrats, we salute Congresswoman Matsui for her leadership in this essential effort."
