U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, and Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced that the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), one of the nation's leading small business advocacy organizations, has endorsed the American Innovation and Choice Online Act, Klobuchar and Grassley's bipartisan legislation to restore competition online.
"As dominant digital platforms -- some of the biggest companies the world has ever seen -- increasingly give preference to their own products and services, we must put rules of the road in place to ensure small businesses and entrepreneurs still have the opportunity to innovate and compete," said Klobuchar. "The National Federation of Independent Business recognizes the urgent need to restore competition online to prevent Big Tech companies from abusing their market power at the expense of hundreds of thousands of small businesses, and to ensure that consumers can benefit from greater choice. This endorsement adds to our growing momentum to take action and level the playing field for small businesses and consumers. It's time to bring our bipartisan legislation for a vote on the floor."
"The NFIB has represented small businesses across the country for decades. So I'm grateful for their support of our legislation. It shows that there's a serious need for action. This endorsement also stands in stark contrast to the groups propped up by the tech giants whose sole purpose has been to mislead and preserve the status quo," said Grassley .
"Without a doubt, the internet has vastly changed the small business economy.Small businesses have had no choice but to rely on a small group of technology companies that have been dominating the digital economy for a variety of business needs," said Mitch Relfe, Manager of Federal Government Relations at NFIB. "This legislation offers important protections from unfair and anticompetitive behavior that small business owners overwhelmingly support and need NFIB supports the American Innovation and Choice Online Act and appreciates your advocacy for a fair and level playing field for small business owners in the digital economy."
