Following the announcement by the Bureau of Economic Analysis that U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 0.9% in this year's second quarter, U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) released the following statement:

"According to Biden's own National Economic Council Director, today's GDP numbers indicate we are in a recession," Sen. Sullivan said. "I find it extremely concerning that the White House refuses to acknowledge and accept responsibility for the havoc they have unleashed on American families. Instead, we've received mixed message after mixed message -- from calling inflation a good thing, to telling Americans they should be happy gas costs over $4 a gallon to trying to redefine the word, recession, the excuses need to stop.

"Even more concerning now are the Democrat lawmakers who want to impose even greater burdens on the American people with new taxes and more reckless spending for their socialist wish list -- all at the worst possible time."
