Rep. Grijalva Statement on Reinstatement of Arizona's 158-Year-Old Abortion Ban

Press Release

Date: Sept. 29, 2022
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Abortion

Today, Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03) released the following statement:

"If there was ever a time to codify a federal law protecting reproductive freedoms, it's now. Arizona Republicans who fought to reinstate a 158-year-old draconian abortion ban, that has no exceptions including rape and incest, have made women in our state second-class citizens."

"The result of the court decision has immediately caused confusion and fear due to conflicting and restrictive laws on women's reproductive health already on the books in Arizona. I condemn this assault by extremist Republicans and the far-right courts' attack on women's rights and urge for clarifications to be issued regarding the pre-existing laws to give women and providers the clarity they need to continue their care. "

"I'll continue to fight for individuals' freedoms at the federal level so health care decisions stay out of the hands of politicians and remain between patients and their doctors."
