Gallagher Calls for U.S. to Take Swift Action Against Chinese Drone Maker DJI

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement calling for the federal government to take swift action against Chinese drone maker DJI after the Department of Defense added DJI to its list of Chinese Military Companies operating in the U.S.

"This week, the Department of Defense (DoD) finally added Chinese drone maker DJI to its list of Chinese Military Companies operating in the United States. While long overdue, this is an important recognition that DJI has close links to the Chinese Community Party and the People's Liberation Army. Given this recognition, and DJI's complicity in the CCP's ongoing genocide in Xinjiang, it is long past time for the federal government to take action.

"Congress should start by immediately passing the American Security Drone Act of 2021 to bar the federal government from procuring DJI drones or other drones similarly produced by companies controlled by the CCP. Based on DoD's move, the FCC should also add DJI to its Covered List of companies that pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States. This would at least prohibit certain FCC subsidies from being used to purchase its equipment.

"DoD has recognized the threat from DJI. It's time for Congress and the FCC to as well."
