In response to news this week that OPEC and its allies will slash oil production by 2 million barrels per day, U.S. Representative Matt Cartwright (PA-08) announced that he is cosponsoring a bill with Reps. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), Sean Casten (D-Ill.) and Susan Wild (D-Pa.) that would end U.S. troop protection for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Strained Partnership Act would remove all U.S. troops and American missile defense systems from both countries. The bill would also relocate all other U.S. technology and defense systems to other areas in the Middle East for the purpose of protecting U.S. troops in other countries in the region.

"It's outrageous that by inflating global oil prices, OPEC has chosen to financially empower Putin, further funding his criminal war against Ukraine," said Rep. Cartwright. "As a nation, we need to reevaluate our relationship with the Saudis and remind them who the superpower is."
