Rep. Estes Votes to Exclude Wasteful Spending Tactic

Today, Rep. Ron Estes (R--Kansas) voted to prohibit the inclusion of so-called community project funding, frequently called earmarks, in the 118th Congress rules package.

"Washington's reckless spending of hardworking taxpayer dollars adds to our ever-growing debt and was worsened last year by the current process of community project funding. And we all know how frivolous spending has become over prior decades using the earmark process," said Rep. Estes. "The legislative branch does have the Constitutional authority to direct spending, but funds must be allocated responsibly while restoring our fiscal house by reducing spending and balancing our budget. Currently, Biden bureaucrats are using their own earmark process as a swampy tactic to fund wasteful pet projects that benefit DC insiders. Moving forward, I will work with my colleagues to develop guardrails to ensure that taxpayer money is spent appropriately, and that local priorities are addressed."
