House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement regarding President Biden's State of the Union remarks on protecting Medicare and Social Security:

"Despite the President's lies and fear mongering, Republicans are committed to strengthening Medicare and Social Security, so these programs are sustainable for generations to come.

"President Biden and Congressional Democrats, however, continue to weaken our safety nets through irresponsible and radical spending that has led to higher Medicare premiums and out-of-pocket costs for patients. Further, their one-size-fits-all socialist price setting scheme will result in fewer medicines at higher initial prices for all Americans, including seniors.

"Should they continue to refuse bipartisan cooperation, both Medicare and Social Security, which are on the pathway to insolvency, will go broke. Republicans stand ready to strengthen and preserve these programs, without cutting benefits to seniors. Will President Biden and Congressional Democrats join us?"
