ORTIZ ANNOUNCES GRANT TO CAMERON COUNTY

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz (TX-27) announced today that the United States Department of Justice awarded a grant totaling $225,000 to the Brownsville West Side Weed and Seed site in Cameron County. These funds will be dedicated to law enforcement efforts focusing on identifying drug dealers and organized crime, as well as encouraging crime reporting and neighborhood participation in watch programs.

"As a former law enforcement officer, I understand the positive impact of such grants. This grant is proof of Brownsville's success with the 'Weed and Seed' program," Ortiz said. "This funding will allow the Brownsville community to collaborate with law enforcement for a common goal of enhancing their quality of life. These funds will help reduce some of the unfortunate circumstances plaguing many neighborhoods."

"The 'Weed and Seed' program has been very productive in neighborhood restoration through their objective of promoting community involvement," said Ortiz. "This grant represents a major investment for the people of Brownsville who are eager to take pride in the appearance of their community."
