Gerlach Pledges Support to America's Children

Congressman Jim Gerlach recently signed the National School Boards Association's Pledge To America's Schoolchildren, an education campaign designed to promote excellence in public schools.

"As a product of public schools whose children all have received fine public school educations as well, ensuring our teachers, school boards and students have access to the tools and resources they need is a job I take very seriously," Rep. Gerlach said. "We need to make sure our children are fully prepared to deal with real-world challenges and our schools have what is needed to get the job done."

By signing the Pledge To America's Schoolchildren, Congressman Gerlach has pledged to work and vote to:

• Improve the No Child Left Behind Act to give my school districts better measures for student and school performance, and the support needed to close the achievement gap.

• Help my school district(s) meet the needs of students with disabilities by supporting the funding goals of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).

• Support school readiness programs for children entering kindergarten in my school districts.

• Help my school districts to attract, train and retain highly qualified and effective teachers.

• Help my school districts to provide all students with 21st Century skills and knowledge, including math, science and technology.
