BLUNT: IMMIGRATION PLAN MUST SECURE BORDER, REESTABLISH RULE OF LAW

Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt released the following statement this morning reiterating his support for an immigration policy that secures the border and observes the rule of law.

"The clear delineation of a national border, coupled with a general willingness to enforce it, is the most basic requirement of a sovereign nation. As Congress looks to renew the debate on immigration, it must first put forward a serious plan to secure our borders without offering amnesty to those who continue to enter this country illegally.

"Last year, Congress passed a tough but exceedingly fair immigration bill that ordered additional security agents along the border, constructed new barriers to illegal entry, and imposed stiff penalties on employers caught in violation of the law. As the House and Senate look for ways to build on that progress and reestablish the rule of law as something to be respected, we should take seriously the lessons of the past so that we can handle the security challenges we will face in the future."
