Pearce Calls on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Bring Energy Legislation up for a Vote

Today, Congressman Steve Pearce joined House Republican Leaders to demand Speaker Nancy Pelosi release energy legislation and allow fair and open debate on the country's most pressing issue. On Monday, Pelosi sent a letter asking President Bush to release supplies from the strategic petroleum reserve. At the same time, Pelosi is holding up numerous bills that would increase domestic production of America's resources in Alaska and the outer Continental Shelf.

"This move by Speaker Pelosi proves she understands our country's need for domestic oil supplies. America needs energy today and it shouldn't start and stop with the strategic petroleum reserve. We can do more as a Congress," Pearce remarked. "Just as speaker Pelosi called on Bush to help alleviate our national energy crisis, I call on her to release other legislation dealing with this exact issue. For House leadership to continually refuse to bring these vital energy bills out of committee and onto the floor shows a lack of concern for America."

"It is imperative that Congress take energy seriously and stop playing partisan politics with the pocket books' of the American people."
