JOHN KENNEDY STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT RULING ON SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS

U.S. Senate candidate John Kennedy released the following statement on today's Supreme Court ruling on Second Amendment rights:

"Like many Americans, I strongly support the Second Amendment and believe that gun ownership is an individual right. The United States Supreme Court was right to strike down Washington, D.C.'s anti-gun law, which infringed on the rights of law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms."

"This decision also stands as a further example of the need to support the nomination of strict constructionist judges, the most recent of whom is Justice Samuel Alito - who my opponent voted against. It's a good thing for gun owners that Mary Landrieu didn't get her way. If Justice Alito were not on the court, this decision would have gone the other way."

"My opponent also refused to join 55 senators from both parties who support the Second Amendment and signed a brief in this case urging the court to defend the Constitution. Louisiana deserves a senator who won't hesitate to defend our Second Amendment rights. That's the kind of senator I will be."
