Deborah Bell Paseur Breaks Campaign Pledge, Attacks Judge Greg Shaw's Integrity with Latest Campaign Ad
Deborah Bell Paseur has flip-flopped on her pledge to run a positive campaign by attacking Judge Greg Shaw's integrity in her latest campaign ad, the Shaw Campaign announced today.
In her ad, titled 'Only', Paseur claims that she is the only candidate not supported by oil companies and implies that Judge Shaw can be 'bought'.
The Shaw campaign noted the absurdity of this desperate attack. Judge Greg Shaw was unanimously selected by the Alabama Supreme Court to serve as chief judge of the very court that oversees ethics complaints against judges.
Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb and Justices Harold See, Champ Lyons, Thomas Woodall, Lyn Stuart, Patricia Smith, Michael Bolin, Tom Parker and Glenn Murdock all voted for Judge Shaw to be Chief Judge of the Court of the Judiciary. The Alabama Supreme Court trusts Judge Shaw's integrity and his respect for our court system and the Canons of Judicial Ethics. Deborah Bell Paseur has broken her pledge and made an attack that flies in the face of reality.
The Shaw Campaign described Paseur's latest ad as a 'direct attack on Judge Shaw's integrity' and a 'coordinated effort to mislead the voters'.
"I will not stand idly by and let Deborah Bell Paseur attack my integrity," said Judge Greg Shaw. "I have never made a single decision based on anything but the law and it is reprehensible that my opponent would imply that I could be 'bought'."
"Deborah Bell Paseur's calculated attack on Judge Shaw is an effort to hide the fact that she has no appellate court experience and we hope we can get back to a civilized debate about which candidate has the experience to serve on the state's highest court," said campaign spokesman Josh Cooper.
The Shaw Campaign is calling for a public apology and that the false and misleading ad be immediately removed from the air.
