Cantor Statement On March For Life

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement as thousands of Americans converged on Washington, D.C. to take part in the March for Life. January 22 marks the 37th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision:

"Today, moms, dads and young Americans will brave the rain and cold to highlight our shared belief in the principle that the right to life is universal and not reserved only for the planned. I commend the thousands who will march today on our national Mall to mark the somber 37th anniversary of abortion on demand, as they stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

"As thousands of Americans March for Life, I hope that the President reflects upon his first year and recalls his campaign rhetoric to reduce the number of abortions in America. I hope that he reconsiders some of the controversial decisions pushed by his Administration and the majority in Congress, including using taxpayer dollars to organizations that promote and provide abortions abroad, and attempting to allow federal funding of abortion on demand in our own country -- in the name of health care reform.

"Though today marks a solemn anniversary for millions of us, there are reasons for hope. Medical innovations reshape modern care each and every day. More young Americans are choosing life than ever before. Signs of progress and hope abound, and along with my colleagues and millions Americans, we will continue to fight so that one day America will once again protect the unalienable right to life.
