Hatch Statement On Presidents's Energy Announcement Today

Statement

Date: March 31, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) issued the following statement today after President Obama announced a decision to lift restrictions on offshore energy development off the east coast without eliminating the ban on energy development in Utah and the mountain west:

"Today's announcement by the President is at the very least an acknowledgement that we must develop a comprehensive energy strategy if we are to remain an economically vibrant and secure nation. We need to increase access to all forms of energy, while improving efficiency so we aren't reliant on dangerous foreign sources for our energy.

"That's why it is deeply regrettable that this Administration continues to keep critical, job-creating energy resources in Utah and the Intermountain West remain under lock and key. We need to get rid of our irrational bias against these abundant, affordable sources of energy. They've helped make us the great nation we are today. So, let's hope this announcement is a sign that this Administration understands the realities of our nation's energy situation."
