Issue Position

We need to strengthen our backbone by getting the middle class back to work with fair wages and benefits, by providing appropriate incentives that allow business owners to make a fair profit. With a strong backbone Indiana and our country can prosper and be more secure.

A free market works only if it is a fair market. Unfortunately, we are prone to want more than we need; and, when we try to get more we often take from someone else. When we promote business at the expense of the worker by allowing unfair wages, unsafe work conditions, and no health care, the economy collapses.

All people have suffered from the collapse of the economy. Some have suffered greater losses than others as they lost their jobs, their homes and all of their savings. There is no doubt regulation can be excessive and wrong; however, we learned with lower regulation of the financial industry, greed took over, and, although the few got wealthy, the middle class got left behind which collapsed our economy and our country fell into a recession.
If we would regulate just enough to assure a fair market; if we would require other countries to comply with fair labor rules and comparable environmental protections; if we would only spend tax dollars on true job development and not just job shifting; everyone would prosper.

We must have the commitment and goal of governing for the good of all. It is only when we attempt to do what is best and not simply what is in our best interest, that we can arrive at the appropriate course.
