Moran: Obama Should Not Grant Amnesty to Illegal Immigrants

Statement

Date: June 24, 2010
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Congressman Jerry Moran issued the following statement in response to reports this week that the Obama Administration is considering granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. On Monday, eight U.S. Senators sent a letter to President Obama to express their concern over this issue.

"There is no doubt that the federal government has failed when it comes to immigration. America's immigration system is broken and desperately needs to be fixed. But granting amnesty to illegal immigrants is no solution. I strongly oppose this attempt to circumvent Congress and reward those who have entered our country illegally," said Moran.

"To combat the problem of illegal immigration, the federal government must secure the border and enforce our laws. By granting amnesty to those here illegally, the government would instead be ignoring the law. I call on President Obama and members of his Administration to abandon this disastrous idea that will further bankrupt our country."
