Miller Statement on Supreme Court Decision in McDonald v. Chicago

Date: June 28, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congresswoman Candice Miller (MI-10) today made the following comments regarding the United States Supreme Court's 5-4 decision on McDonald v. Chicago to maintain the Second Amendment, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" nationwide:

"Today's ruling by the Supreme Court in McDonald v. Chicago is a victory for the freedom of every American. The Second Amendment of our Constitution says that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, but for far too long local governments across our nation have been imposing laws that limited the freedoms of individual Americans by depriving them of the ability to protect themselves, their families and their property. Today's ruling by the Supreme Court corrects that wrong and reaffirms that the Second Amendment means what it says. I applaud the Justices who joined the majority for having the courage to stand up for the freedom and liberty of every American citizen."
