Issue Position

"Faithful to the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence, we assert the inherent dignity and sanctity of all human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

The words above are from the 2008 edition of the official Republican Platform. I agree with the phrasing and intent of these words. Abortion in America has separated and divided us since Roe vs. Wade. I commit to standing strong for both lives involved, that of mother and the life of the unborn child.

I am a staunchly Pro-life American. I believe firmly in the sanctity of human life. It's tragic that some women feel abortion is the only answer for an unwanted pregnancy. We as pro-life supporters must provide a better and more compelling answer; and if we can, the number of abortions will continue to be reduced. I believe those answers include things like:

* Meeting the financial and medical needs during pregnancy
* Provide assistance in finding adoptive parents
* Provide education regarding pro-life options
* The use of technology for mandatory ultra-sound views

All of these things serve to diffuse the issue and separate it from political terms; and instead reaches deep into the personal hearts of individuals facing difficult choices. In Congress I will work to promote and foster a culture of life. I cannot support any legislation that requires tax payer funding of abortions here or abroad.

I am thankful that around the country services like the ones listed above are being offered and in some cases mandated. Here in Wisconsin abortion frequency has dropped by over 50% in the last two decades. I am proud of that, and reductions of this level happen when pro-life citizens get involved; not just in the debate but in providing real life-changing alternatives.
