Dan Benishek Meets with Local Business Leaders as Unemployment Numbers Rise

Press Release

Date: Aug. 27, 2010
Location: Alpena, MI

Dr. Dan Benishek, the Republican nominee for Congress in Michigan's 1st District, met with local business leaders in Alpena, Michigan today to discuss economic development and job creation in the community.

"As I travel Michigan's 1st District and speak with citizens struggling to make ends meet, it reaffirms my desire to fight the job-killing McDowell-Granholm agenda," Dr. Benishek stated. "It is frightening to think that Rep. McDowell wants to take his philosophy of tax hikes and additional government regulation to Washington to support Speaker Pelosi and President Obama's failed economic policies."

Dr. Benishek's meetings coincide with the release of data from the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth showing that Michigan's unemployment rate rose again. Last month, the state's unemployment rate increased from 13.1 percent to 14 percent. That equates to 687,000 Michiganders who are actively looking for work but cannot find it. "These numbers are unacceptable," Dr. Benishek observed. "This is further proof that the politicians in Lansing are not doing their jobs. Through my plan to cut spending, cut taxes, and cut government regulation, I know we can create an environment where businesses begin to hire again."
