Issue Position: Affordable Healthcare for America

Issue Position

Congressman Dingell has fought for health care reform since he entered Congress in 1955. At the beginning of each Congress, he introduces the health bill first proposed by his father, Congressman John D. Dingell, Sr., to establish a national health insurance program that would provide quality, affordable health care coverage for all Americans.

Earlier this year, Congressman Dingell played an instrumental role in guiding the health insurance reform package through Congress. The package consisted of two bills, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. President Obama signed the bills into law on March 23, 2010, and March 30, 2010, respectively. Together, the two laws will reduce the deficit, expand access to health insurance, lower the cost of coverage, and improve the quality of care.
