Hanna Votes to Cap Non-Security Spending at 2008 Levels

U.S. Representative Richard Hanna (R,C,I-NY) today voted in favor to cap federal non-security spending at 2008 levels or below for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2011.

Over the past three years, non-security spending has increased 88 percent. As a result the U.S. government borrows 41 cents of every dollar spent. Hanna said this legislation means the levels would be pre-stimulus and pre-bailout levels, and estimated savings are about $60 billion.

"This Congress isn't just freezing spending, but actually cutting it," Hanna said. "The American people have made it clear that they want the federal deficit reduced and that means Washington needs to live within a budget. I fully support these spending cuts."
