Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement today after Governor Jindal announced in Shreveport this afternoon that I-49 North will be completed with state funds in the 2012 Capital Outlay -- H.B. 2.

"Today is a great day for the state and especially Northwest Louisiana. Completion of I-49 North is one of the most promising long-term economic development projects Louisiana has seen in decades. I want to commend Governor Jindal, LADOTD Secretary LeBas, and our state legislators for their extraordinary leadership on this initiative. Even though it was a considerable challenge, the governor promised the people of Louisiana he would follow through on the completion of this project -- and he did not let us down," said Congressman Fleming.

"This is a major win not just because we have a clear path to completing I-49N, but because the state stepped up and decided to fund it without waiting for the disorganized and inefficient federal system to do the job, which could have easily taken another decade," Congressman Fleming added. "Now it appears we'll have sections A through K -- I-220 in downtown Shreveport to the Arkansas state line -- complete as soon as 2015."
